Januscape vulnerability CVE-2026-53359 mitigations available

Seth Arnold alerts us to a Januscape vulnerability (CVE-2026-53359) and most importantly tells us mitigations are available. We’re given details of the local privilege escalation (LPE) vulnerability, a discussion on CVSS scores, and told it impacts all Ubuntu releases. Details of installing the fix are provided, how to check if we’re impacted; with further links provided should we need more.

COSCUP x UbuCon Asia 2026 report from Yeonguk Choo

Yeonguk Choo reminds us of Ubu4Cut’s history and it’s running at COSCUP x UbuCon Asia 2026. We’re told of the project and its rewrite as a snap which was a ‘step up’. We’re shown many photos and given links to learn more, or view code. He walks us through the event, and overcoming a mishap. Yeonguk also covers other parts of the event, and even a day trip. Yeonguk gives thanks to organizers, speakers and attendees, and the Ubuntu community in what was a memorable event.

Ubuntu Server Gazette - Issue 18 - Auto-MIR: teaching a robot to fill my TODOs

Christian Ehrhardt has posted the Ubuntu Server Gazette Issue 18 for us. In it we’ll find discussion of Main Inclusion Review (MIR) process, and automation of the ‘boring parts’. As well, some talk on the process itself. This is an extensive post on ‘auto-mir’, with a reminder that its still ‘our name at the bottom’ so it’s still humans in control. Christian also discusses it’s initial usage, and reminds us it’s ‘beta’ quality, and asks for feedback if we’re trying it.

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Users Get Linux 7.0 HWE Kernel Ahead of Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS

Marcus Nestor informs us that Canonical has backported the Linux 7.0 kernel from Ubuntu 26.04 LTS to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS for users using the HWE kernel stack. We’re reminded that Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS will ship soon; shipping with this newer kernel, and Marcus gives a few other details.

KDE Announces “Bulletproof” KDE Suite with Three Years of Support

Marcus Nestor reports that the KDE Project, Kubuntu Focus, and Techpaladin Software have announced a new project providing a long-term-support (LTS) system with KDE Plasma desktop and apps called the “bulletproof” KDE suite. We’re told this will give companies, public institutions and professionals the needed long term support, and for now is available only on Kubuntu 26.04 LTS, but, there are expected to be more.
